LEXINGTON, Va. - Bridgewater College closed out
its regular season Wednesday with a 2-1 loss at Washington and Lee
University in ODAC women's soccer action.
The Generals (14-1-2 overall, 9-0-2 ODAC) scored in the 17th
minute on a goal by Allie Espina with the assist from Ainsley
Daigle. Espina scored W&L's second goal in the 71st minute,
making the score 2-0.
The Eagles answered quickly following Espina's second goal as
Jacey Kelley scored in the 73rd minute making the score 2-1.
W&L held the Eagles at bay the rest of the way to hold on
for the victory.
The Generals held an 18-8 edge in shots, but the margin was just
8-7 in the second half. W&L also held the edge in corners, 4-1.
The Eagles close out the regular season with a 13-5-1 overall
record and a 7-4 mark in the ODAC. The 13 wins is the most in
program history.
Bridgewater finished the regular season in a three-way tie for
fourth place in the ODAC standings with Roanoke and Randolph-Macon,
all with 7-4 records.
The Eagles will travel to Roanoke on Saturday for an opening
round contest in the ODAC tournament. Roanoke edged the Eagles 1-0
during their regular season meeting. Game time is still to be
determined.
