ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The Bridgewater College Eagles split its
matches Friday at the Seahawks Invitational hosted by St. Mary's
College. The Eagles lost to the host Seahawks in five sets but
bounced back to sweep Catholic in three sets.
The Eagles lost a heartbreaker to St. Mary's in a see-saw
affair. The Eagles won the first set 27-25 but lost the second
25-18. BC gained the upper had with a 25-18 victory in the third
set and the Eagles has an opportunity to close out the match in the
fourth set. The score was tied at 22-22 before the Seahawks pulled
out the 25-23 victory to send the match to a fifth-set. The
Seahawks dominated the fifth set 15-9.
Erika Dirnagl pounded 20 kills to lead the BC attack and Tricia
Davis finished with 50 assists.
The Eagles responded in the second match by rolling to a 25-13,
25-17, 25-21 victory over Catholic.
Ashley Scott led the attack with 13 kills. Candice Guy added 12
kills and Dirnagl finished wth nine. Davis tallied 39 assists and
Casey O'Leary added 14 digs.
Bridgewater is now 11-15 on the season.
The Eagles will play two more matches Saturday at the Seahawks
Invitational as they square off against Salisbury and Gallaudet.
