Randolph-Macon outscored Bridgewater College 48-16 in the second
half to defeat the Eagles 71-38 in ODAC men's basketball
action.
The Yellow Jackets improved to 18-5 overall and 12-2 in the ODAC
while the Eagles dropped to 12-10, 8-5 in the conference.
The Eagles battled the first-place Yellow Jackets on even terms in
the first half. Randolph-Macon managed just five field goals in the
first half, yet still led by one at the break by taking advantage
of its opportunities at the foul line.
Randolph-Macon led by seven, 21-14, with 5:57 left in the first
half, but BC outscored the visitors 8-2 during the remainder of the
half to close within one.
Jake Johnson and D.J. Billups hit jumpers to pull the Eagles within
three before Justin short hit two free throws for the Yellow
Jackets. Rob Rice scored on a layup to cut the lead to three with
3:22 left in the half and neither team scored again until Dominic
Trawick hit a runner at the buzzer, trimming the Yellow
Jackets' lead to one, 23-22, at the break.
Randolph-Macon scored the first 13 points of the second half and
never looked back.
Bridgewater cut the lead to 10 points, but another 12-0 run by the
visitors put the game away.
Short led the winners with 22 and Danny Jones added 11. Billups was
the only BC player in double figures as he finished with 11 points.
