Lynchburg College upset the Bridgeater College Eagles, 78-69,
Saturday afternoon in the regular season finale for both squads.
The Hornets jumped out to a 15-4 lead in the opening minutes, but
BC battled back with a 13-1 run to take an 18-16 lead with 7:50
left in the half.
Lynchburg controlled the remainder of the half, outscoring the
Eagles 20-8 to lead by 10 points, 36-26, at halftime.
The Hornets pushed the margin to 14 points early in the second
half, forcing BC to play catch-up the rest of the way.
The Eagles trailed by 10, 62-52, with 6:22 left but a 7-0 run
pulled BC to within three. Rob Rice converted a three-point play
and Jake Johnson added two buckets, making the score 62-59 with
4:53 left.
Mason Wooldridge then knocked down a huge 3-pointer to put the lead
back to six, but Johnson scored again to keep the Eagles close,
65-61.
The Hornets however hit the key shots down the stretch and
converted 11-of-15 foul shots in the final four minutes to preserve
the 78-69 victory.
Dominic Trawick led the Eagles with 27 points and Johnson added 15.
Rice finished with 12 for BC.
Sean Southerland paced the Hornets with 16 points and Wooldridge
added a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
The Eagles finish the regular season with a 14-11 overall record
and a 10-6 record in the ODAC. The victory puts the Hornets at 4-21
overall and 2-14 in the conference.
