Box Score FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - After starting the season
with a pair of wins, the Bridgewater Eagles field hockey team fell
on the road at perennial power Mary Washington by a 5-0 tally.
Mary Washington used a stifling defense to hold the Eagles squad
to just one shot on the day, while UMW tallied 20 shots. Junior
Brianna Jacques tallied BC's lone shot with 25 minutes remaining in
the contest.
UMW had a pair of players with two goals, while the squad had
balanced scoring with three goals in the first half and two in the
second.
In the cage for BC, both Taylor Waddell and Elizabeth Sullivan
saw action each playing a half. Waddell and Sullivan each recorded
five saves with Waddell picking up the loss.
"This was a hard and tough game for us," said head coach Allyson
Kenyon. "We had some good ideas but our execution was a little off.
On the bright side, we learned some things today and we will look
to apply them this weekend, starting with St. Vincent."
BC hosts the Mapp Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at Mapp
Field. BC opens play on Saturday against St. Vincent at 1:00 p.m.
The Eagles will then play on Sunday in the consolation or
championship final, pending Saturday's outcome.
