Box Score NORFOLK, Va. - On the road against Virginia
Wesleyan (2-4, 1-0 ODAC), the Bridgewater Eagles (4-2, 0-1 ODAC)
field hockey team was able to knot the game up twice, but was
unable to ever gain the lead as the team fell to by a 3-2 score in
Norfolk, Va.
VWC took the lead at the 22:09 mark with a shot that made it
past BC keeper Elizabeth Sullivan to put the Marlins up 1-0.
Bridgewater would answer in a hurry when a corner from Jennifer
Bateman was drilled past the Virginia Wesleyan keeper by Megan Bach
to tie the game at one a piece, which is where the game would stand
as both teams went to halftime.
Virginia Wesleyan would strike first in the second half when an
Ashton Perry shot found cotton to put the Marlins ahead 2-1.
Seven and a half minutes later, Brianna Jacques would net the
equalizer off a tip in from Kalah Hess to tie the game at two with
13 and change remaining.
At the 60:36 mark, Wesleyan's Courtney Eisert would net the
game-winner off a shot from the right side, to give the Marlin the
3-2 conference win.
VWC outshot BC by a 17-12 margin, while each team was able to
record eight saves.
Sullivan picked up her first loss of the year, allowing the
three Marlin goals, but stopping eight other attempts.
"We played really hard today but it might not have been the
smartest game we've played," said head coach Ally Kenyon. "We'll
look to regroup and bounce back on Wednesday."
BC opens the home-conference slate when cross town rivals
Eastern Mennonite visit Mapp Field, with the game being slated for
a 4:30 p.m. start.
