Box Score SWEET BRIAR, Va. – Senior Kristen Combs
(Schuyler, Va./Monticello) led seven Bridgewater College scorers as
the Eagles field hockey team won its conference opener on the road
by an 8-1 tally against the Sweet Briar Vixens.
Senior forward Brianna Jacques
(Orange, Va./Orange) got the scoring started for the Eagles at the
16:36 mark to put Bridgewater ahead 1-0.
Four minutes later, sophomore Joan Burleson
(Newport News, Va./Menchville) tallied the game's second goal off
of a pass from Combs, putting the Eagles ahead 2-0.
Combs netted her first goal of the game with just under four
minutes to play in the first half to give Bridgewater a 3-0
halftime advantage.
Out of the intermission, the senior needed just 97 seconds to
net her second goal of the game to put Bridgewater by four
scores.
Two and a half minutes later, junior Kristina Glick
(Narvon, Pa./Living Word Academy) put the Eagles up 5-0.
Sweet Briar got on the board a minute and change later when a
Lindsay Eneguess shot found cotton to chip the Bridgewater lead to
a 5-1 margin.
Following the Sweet Briar tally, the Eagles scored twice in five
seconds when Jennifer Bateman
(Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) and Kirsten Ganslow
(Wells, Maine, Wells) found the back of the cage to put Bridgewater
up 7-1.
Freshman Colleen
Dickson (Virginia Beach, Va./Salem) netted the final goal of
the game for Bridgewater with under two minutes to play to finalize
the scoring at an 8-1 margin.
Bridgewater outshot Sweet Briar by a 22-to-7 tally, including an
18-to-6 discrepancy in the shots on goal category.
In the cage, junior Taylor Waddell
(Reedsville, Pa./Indian Valley) notched her second straight win.
Waddell turned away four saves in the victory.
Bridgewater is back in action on Wednesday when it hosts
Virginia Wesleyan at Mapp Field.
