Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Senior Kalah Hess (Lancaster,
Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) tallied both goals of the day, including
the overtime game-winner, as the Bridgewater Eagles field hockey
(2-0) team defeated the visiting Dickinson Red Devils by a 2-1
tally at Mapp Field.
In the first half, the Eagles outshot the Red Devils by a 4-to-1
tally, but the game went to the break at a scoreless tie.
Out of the halftime intermission, Bridgewater struck first when
Hess notched her first goal of the game just 12 seconds into the
second stanza, giving the Eagles a 1-0 advantage. Senior Kristen Combs
(Schuyler, Va./Monticello) recorded the assist on the Hess
tally.
Dickinson struck back three and a half minutes later when a
Tanya Bellingham shot found netting to knot the game at one a piece
which is where things would stay, forcing an overtime session.
In the extra frame, both teams has multiple opportunities before
Hess took a pass from Jennifer
Tompkins (Mount Airy, Md./South Carroll) and beat the Red
Devils keeper to tally the game-winner at the 12:51 mark of the
overtime set, giving the Eagles a hard fought 2-1 victory.
Hess led the Eagles offense with her two goals off of just six
shots. The Lancaster, Pa. native has scored three times in the
first two games for Bridgewater in the early part of the 2010
season.
Bridgewater outshot the Red Devils by a 12-to-7 tally.
In the cage, junior Taylor Waddell
(Reedsville, Pa./Indian Valley) earned her second straight victory,
turning away a pair of Dickinson shots along the way.
Freshman Katy Schlectweg picked up the
loss for the Red Devils. Schlectweg recorded six saves in the
loss.
Bridgewater is back in action on
Wednesday when it hosts Mary Washington at 4:30 p.m. at Mapp
Field.
