Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. – In their second home
game of the 2010 season, the Bridgewater Eagles field hockey
(2-1) team fell to the visiting Mary Washington Eagles
(1-2) by a 3-0 score in non-conference action at Mapp
Field.
Bridgewater was outshot by a 14-to-2 margin in the first half,
but thwarted every Mary Washington scoring attempt in the first 35
minutes to take a tie score into the locker room.
Midfielder Florence George tallied the first of her two goals on
the day at the 43:18 mark when she took a Heidi Sheehan pass and
found the back of the net to give Mary Washington a 1-0
lead.
George added her second goal at the 49:20 mark off of a rebound
before teammate Erin Duffy scored the game's final goal at the
68:55 mark to finalize the scoring at 3-0.
Seniors Kalah
Hess (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) and Kirsten Ganslow
(Wells, Maine/Wells) eached recorded a shot to lead the
Bridgewater offense.
Junior goalkeeper Taylor Waddell
(Reedsville, Pa./Indian Valley) recorded eight saves in the loss.
As a team, the Eagles posted five defensive saves with three coming
from sophomore Joan Burleson and two
coming from sophomore Jennifer
Bateman.
Bridgewater is back in action this weekend when it hosts the
Mapp Invitational. The Eagles open play on Saturday against St.
Vincent at 4:30 p.m. before hosting Division II Limestone on Sunday
at 1:00 p.m.
