Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. - Kyle Hammond hit two free throws with 13 seconds left to give Bridgewater the lead and the Washington and Lee's Jeremy Adkins missed a jumper with two seconds left as the Eagles escaped with a 65-64 victory Saturday afternoon. The win snapped the Eagles' seven-game losing streak.
The Eagles trailed by five, 27-22, at the break and the W&L lead grew to eight early in the second half.
The Generals were able to maintain the lead until Rick Maloney scored from in close with 10:09 left in the game to give the Eagles a 47-46 lead.
A dunk by W&L's Drew Kimberly tied the score at 49-49 but Drew Maynard hit a pair of foul shots to give the Eagles a 51-49 lead with 7:42 to play.
Bridgewater stretched its lead to seven, 60-53 on two foul shots by Mark Gibbs with 3:28 left to play.
The Generals rallied with seven straight points and tied the score at 60-60 before Maynard knocked down a 3-pointer to put the Eagles up 63-60 with 1:09 left in the game.
Jon Guest hit a jumper to make it a one point game and a steal by Kimberly led to a jumper by Adkins, giving the Generals the lead, 64-63 with 27 seconds remaining.
Hammond then knocked down the two key foul shots to lift the Eagles to the one-point victory.
Maloney led the Eagles with 18 points and Maynard added 15. Adkins scored 18 to lead the Generals.
Bridgewater is now 7-16 overall and 3-11 in the ODAC. W&L drops to 13-10 overall and 5-9 in the conference.
