Box Score SALEM, Va. - Roanoke College wiped out an 11-point second-half deficit with a 17-4 run and made the plays down the stretch Tuesday evening to hold off the Bridgewater College Eagles, 72-69, in the opening round of the ODAC Men's Basketball Tournament.
The Eagles led by five at the half, 35-30, and stretched the lead to 11 points, 49-38, with 11:42 remaining when Rashad Moore dropped in a floater from 10 feet.
The Maroons then went on their 17-4 run to take a 55-53 lead. The Eagles weathered that storm and regained the lead.
The Eagles led by four 62-58 on two Rick Maloney free throws with 3:40 left, but a jumper by Melvin Felix and two layups by Logan Singleton gave the Maroons a 64-62 lead with 2:21 left.
Bridgewater took the lead when Kyle Hammond converted a 3-point play but Felix resopnded with a 3-point play of his own to give Roanoke the lead, 67-65, with 56 seconds left.
Rick Maloney closed out his career with a double-double of 20 points and 10 boards. Hammond added 14 points and Ronnie Thomas just missed a double-double with nine points and 12 rebounds.
Felix scored 15 of his game-high 23 points in the second half to lead the Maroons. Singleton contributed 18 boards and 13 rebounds.
The Eagles finish their season with an 8-18 overall record.
