Box Score HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Sophomore Betsy Joslyn (Tappahannock, Va./Saint Margaret's) scored with under six minutes to go in the game, but it was too little, too late for the Bridgewater Eagles field hockey team as they dropped a 3-1 decision to 16th-ranked Juniata College on the road.
Juniata peppered the Eagles in the first 15 minutes, recording four shots, while the Eagles offense struggled to get going before Caitlyn Bowman took an Emma Dahmus pass and put it in the back of the net to put Juniata up 1-0.
Bridgewater mustered one shot in the first half, but junior Joan Burleson's (Newport News, Va./Menchville) attempt went wide as the two teams held their own for the remainder of the frame with Juniata taking a one goal lead into the locker room.
Just over five minutes into the second stanza, Juniata extended its lead when a Kortney Showers shot found cotton to push the lead to 2-0 with under 30 minutes to play.
The Eagles would tally another goal 14 minutes later as Bowman netted her second goal of the game to take a 3-0 lead.
Joslyn's goal powered through at the 64:20 mark off of a pass from Jennifer Tompkins (Mount Airy, Md./South Carroll) to trim the Juniata lead to 3-1, which is where things would end.
Bridgewater was outshot by a 13-to-2 tally, with senior keeper Taylor Waddell (Reedsville, Pa./Indian Valley) recorded a pair of saves in the loss.
The Eagles are back in action on Wednesday when they finish their season opening road trip at Mary Washington. Action is slated for a 7:00 p.m. start.
