Box Score

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – Junior guard Jessica Mullen scored a game-high 32 points as the Bridgewater Eagles women's basketball team ended the first half of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) schedule with a strong 71-59 victory over the visiting Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets.

Bridgewater (10-5, 6-4 ODAC) never trailed the Yellow Jackets on the afternoon to move into sole possession of fourth place in the ODAC.

After the two teams traded scores over the first three minutes of the game, a pair of Jenny Logan free throws opened up a quick 4-0 spurt as the Eagles owned an 8-3 lead with 15 and a half to play in the opening set.

Randolph-Macon (8-8, 6-5 ODAC) chipped Bridgewater's lead down to three at a 13-10 margin with 10:32 to play in the first before the Eagles ripped off the game's next nine points to extend the lead to 22-10 with eight and change left in the first half.

Bridgewater pushed its lead to 13 points with under four to play in the first before the Yellow Jackets made a quick 8-1 run to chip the Eagles lead back to single digits at a 28-22 gap with 2:30 to play in the opening stanza.

After the Yellow Jackets run, Bridgewater turned up the defensive intensity, forcing three Randolph-Macon miscues in the final three minutes to end the first half on an 11-2 run to take a 39-24 halftime lead.

Mullen led the way in the first half with 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting, including a pair of treys.

Bridgewater pushed its lead to a game-high 17 points out of the gate in the second half before a 14-4 Randolph-Macon push cut the Bridgewater lead back to single digits at a 47-40 margin with 11:43 to play.

Sophomore guard Holly Morgan ended the Yellow Jackets run with a trey from the corner to push the lead back to double digits and the Eagles would never look back en route to a 71-59 victory over Randolph-Macon.

Mullen's 32 led two Eagles in double figures as freshman Kelsey Taylor knocked in 10 points to aid the Bridgewater offense. The Purcellville, Va. native went 13-of-21 from the floor, including a 3-for-3 performance from beyond the arc. As a team, the Eagles were 6-of-10 from long range on the afternoon.

Senior guard Jenny Logan dished out seven assists and knocked in nine points in the win and also recorded a team-high three steals.

On the glass, freshman Shannan Thorne paced the way with a game-high nine rebounds as the Eagles edged Randolph-Macon by a 42-to-40 margin in the rebounding department.

Post player Taylor Wieczorek paced three Yellow Jackets in double figures with 16 points. Maggie Roy and Sarah Parsons each chipped in 13 for Randolph-Macon from their point guard position.

Wieczorek also pulled down eight rebounds for the Yellow Jackets.

On the afternoon, Bridgewater owned a 30-to-20 advantage in the paint and a 22-to-10 advantage in points off of turnovers.

Bridgewater is back in action on Tuesday night when it travels to Eastern Mennonite for a showdown with the conference-leading Royals. Action from Yoder Arena is set for 7:00 p.m.
