Box Score 2 TOWSON, Md. – Bethany Doman led the Eagles to victory with 11 service aces in the 3-0 win over The City College of New York at the first day of the Goucher Invitational. The Bridgewater volleyball team also defeated Goucher at Goucher College.
Bridgewater advanced into the second match of the day, after the win over Goucher, with a record of 8-10. The Gophers dropped to a record of 5-16.
Megann Grimes and Katie Long each put up 11 kills during the match against the host school. Grimes recorded a hitting percentage of .474 for the Eagles.
Libero Casey O'Leary chipped in 21 digs, while Lindsay Kallam recorded 26 assists.
For Goucher, Megan Chalk led the Gophers with 16 kills but also put up 12 errors. Sarah Johnson recorded 23 assists, while Ashley Fan led the team with 17 digs.
Bridgewater came out strong in the first set earning the first five points for the Eagles. The Eagles went on three more runs winning the set 25-14.
The second set was a rally until an attack error from Goucher tying the game 17-17. The Gophers pulled away from Bridgewater with four important points in a row to take the set 25-20.
Seven serves from Bethany Doman earned the Eagles the early lead over Goucher in the third set making the score 11-3. A service error from Goucher ended the game 25-11; Bridgewater was going into the last set of the match with two set wins.
The fourth set was neck-and-neck until the 7-7 mark where Bridgewater pulled away with a six point run followed by another six point run right after. The Eagles won the set 25-15 and swept the match 3-1.
Bridgewater College advances to an overall record of 9-10 after the 3-0 win over The City College of New York who now drop to a record of 5-10.
Grimes, Long, and Maddy Carter topped the leader board with 17 kills for the Eagles.
Setters Kallam and Lauren Johnson each recorded 11 assists. Libero O'Leary chipped in 15 digs for the win.
The City College of New York recorded 26 digs as a team as well as 12 kills for the loss.
The Beavers took the first three points with three errors from the Eagles. Doman turned the score around with assisting Bridgewater with 12 straight points making the score 19-8. A kill from Carter ended the set 25-12.
Doman came out strong for the second set earning seven more points in a row. Two errors at the end of the set gave the 25-11 win to Bridgewater.
The Eagles swept the third and final set 25-12 with a six point run from Doman serving. Two more errors from the Beavers gave the set to Bridgewater with a final score of 25-12.
The Bridgewater volleyball team takes on Frostburg St. at 10 a.m. on Saturday and then McDaniel at 2 p.m. for day two of the Goucher Invitational.
