Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. – In the home finale for the Bridgewater Eagles women's lacrosse team, the Eagles outshot visiting Hollins by a 28-8 tally and registered 11 first-half goals en route to an 18-1 victory in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action.
The Eagles (6-9, 4-5 ODAC) wasted little time in getting on the board when sophomore Sarah Conner stuck a shot past the keeper on a free position attempt to put Bridgewater up by a 1-0 score with 28:19 left in the first.
Sophomore Katie Freeman got in on the scoring 26 seconds later when she snuck a shot past the keeper to build a 2-0 advantage before a Taylor Chamberlain tally extend the Bridgewater lead to three goals with just over three minutes expired off of the first-half clock.
Freeman added another goal with 23:47 left off of an assist by Peggy Russell before Russell got in on the scoring with a goal of her own to build the Bridgewater lead to 5-0 with 23 and change left in the first stanza.
Senior Jenny Logan and junior Dana Paulding registered goals over the next three minutes to keep the early run going for the Eagles before Bridgewater took its foot off the pedal on the offensive end.
Freshman Alissa Miller tallied an unassisted goal with 14:04 to play in the first before fellow freshman Paige Hennessy took a Logan pass and beat the keeper to push the lead to 9-0 with 11:43 to play in the opening frame.
Over the final minutes of the first half, Miller and Bach each scored a goal as the Eagles dominated play to take a commanding 11-0 lead into the locker room.
In the first half, the Eagles outshot Hollins by a 16-3 tally and forced 13 Hollins miscues along the way. Despite the lopsided play, the two teams were even in draws at six each as action moved to the second half.
Hollins (1-14, 0-9 ODAC) finally broke the Bridgewater run when Amanda Duffie-Fritz scored off of a Jessie McAfoos shot with 25 minutes remaining to cut the lead to 11-1, but it was all Bridgewater the rest of the way.
Freeman got Bridgewater going again when she scored an unassisted tally with 22:30 remaining to build the Eagles' lead back to 11 at a 12-1 score.
Hennessy stuck back-to-back shots in the net to push Bridgewater's advantage to 13 before freshman Jordyn Hutchins tallied her first goal of the afternoon with 9:03 to play to build the lead to 15-1.
Over the final eight minutes of play, Russell, Savannah Key and Bach each scored goals to finalize the scoring at an 18-1 tally, earning Bridgewater its sixth win of the year.
On the offensive end, Hennessy and Freeman each posted three-goal games to lead the way while Chamberlain and Bach dished out two helpers each in the win.
Paulding registered three caused turnovers in the win, while Hennessy led the way with four ground balls and four draw controls.
Freshman Laura Reynolds turned away six shots to earn her sixth victory of the season.
Hollins posted just eight shots, led by four from Melissa Hubbard. Hollins also committed 21 turnovers in the loss.
In the cage, Jacqui Sommerman allowed 18 goals and stopped six Bridgewater shots to pick up the loss.
Bridgewater is back in action on Wednesday when it travels to Marymount for the regular season finale. First draw against the Saints is set for 4 p.m.
