Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College women's soccer team scored three goals in each half Saturday afternoon to defeat Emory & Henry College 6-0 win ODAC action.
Paxton Sauerwald led the Eagles with a hat trick while Mari Marotta, Melanie Waters and Ashley Crossman also added goals for the Eagles.
The Eagles got on the board in the 11th minute. Crossman put a shot on goal that was stopped by E&H goalie Sarah Jerome. The rebound came back to Crossman and this time she found the net for a 1-0 BC lead.
Bridgewater made it 2-0 in the 38th minute when Sauerwald took a through ball from Abby Dehoff to score her first goal of the game.
The Eagles scored again on a goal by Marotta to take a 3-0 lead late in the half.
Sauerwald scored again early in the second half. The BC forward beat the goalie and rolled a shot toward the goal that was cleared off the line by a Wasps defender. Sauerwald regained possession and this time punched the ball into an open goal for a 4-0 Eagles lead.
An unassisted goal by Waters made the score 5-0 and Sauerwald completed her hat trick with an assist from Anna Theisen for the final 6-0 margin of victory.
Three Bridgewater goalies combined for the shutout. Chelsea Steele played the first half while Lindsey McDole and Krista Kelly split the final 45 minutes. McDole was the only BC keeper to record a save as she finished with one.
The Eagles held a 30-5 edge in shots and a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks.
With the victory, the Eagles improve to 6-2-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the ODAC. The Wasps fall to 2-6, 1-3 in the conference.
The Eagles return to action Wednesday when they travel to Washington and Lee for a key conference contest. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
