Eagles Overwhelm Royals, 7-0

Box Score

HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Bridgewater College women's soccer team snapped a three-game losing streak with an overwhelming performance Wednesday evening in a 7-0 ODAC victory over the Eastern Mennonite Royals.

The Royals' best opportunity to score came early when Nora Osei's shot from 20 yards out hit the cross bar.

Less than two minutes later the Eagles took the lead and never looked back.

Bridgewater got on the board in the 11th minute when Anna Theisen sent a long pass ahead to Sarah Conner. Conner took one touch and then drilled a shot just inside the near post from 18 yards out for a 1-0 Eagles lead.

Conner assisted on the second goal as her pass across the box found the foot of Melanie Waters and the Eagles senior finished the play with her sixth goal of the season to put the Eagles on top 2-0 in the 19th minute.

Michelle Viegas broke into the scoring column when she scored on a shot from the far right side, giving the Eagles a 3-0 early in the 25th minute of action.

The Eagles fourth goal came off a corner kick in the 30th minute when the ball glanced off an EMU defender and rolled past the keeper for an own goal.

Amanda Peregory completed the first-half scoring when she found an open goal after taking a long crossing pass from Alycia Giauque to send the Eagles to the break with a 5-0 lead.

Two-second half goals finished off the 7-0 victory for the Eagles.

Julia Baca took a centering pass from Ashley Crossman and found the back of the net to make the score 6-0 and Viegas' second goal of the night accounted for the final goal in the 7-0 victory.

Bridgewater held a 23-3 advantage in shots and a 5-2 edge in corner kicks.

Three Bridgewater keepers combined for the shutout. Kelsey Hecker played the first half and recorded the Eagles lone save of the contest. Stephanie Bebko and Taylor Riley split the second-half duties.

With the victory the Eagles improved to 8-6 overall and 5-3 in the ODAC. The Royals dropped to 9-5 overall and 4-4 in conference action.

Bridgewater is back in action Sunday afternoon when the Eagles host Roanoke College in a key ODAC contest. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
