Cold-Shooting Eagles Fall To Randolph

Box Score

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Bridgewater College struggled to find its shooting touch Wednesday evening and the result was a 65-54 loss to Randolph College in the Eagles' Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener.

The Eagles fell behind 9-2 in the opening minutes and Randolph continued to build its lead as Bridgewater struggled from the floor.

Bridgewater did close the half with a flurry as back-to-back 3-pointers by Ronnie Thomas and Sammy Tyson cut a 12-point deficit to 28-22 at the half.

The trend continued in the second half as the Eagles shooting woes continued as the WildCats again pushed its lead to double figures.

The WildCats led by 15 points with 15 minutes left in the game and the Eagles never trimmed the margin under 10 the rest of the way.

Bridgewater shot just 30.6 percent for the game, making just 19-of-62 shots. The WildCats were much more efficient, hitting exactly 50 percent of their 44 shots.

Randolph, 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the ODAC, hit 8-of-19 tries from 3-point range while the Eagles connected on 5-of-18 shots from beyond the arc.

The WildCats also won the battle of the boards by a 39-33 margin. Guards Mike Ehilegbu and Zach Desgain grabbed seven boards each for Randolph while Ed Reddick pulled down six for the Eagles.

Tavis Stapleton was the lone Eagle in double figures with 13 points. Ehilegbu led a balanced Randolph attack with 14. Evan Horn scored 13 while Jason Eddie and Corey Brown added 12 each.

The Eagles , now 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the conference, return to action Saturday afternoon when they host Hampden-Sydney.
