Box Score

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Freshman Shannon Strosser couldn't have picked a better time for her first career goal. After just over four minutes of the second overtime session, Strosser found the back of the cage to break a 1-1 deadlock and hand the Bridgewater Eagles field hockey (5-2) team a 2-1 double-overtime win over Juniata College on Wednesday evening.

Following a scoreless first half of play that was effectively dominated by the Juniata (4-5) offense, the Eagles netted the game's first goal early in the second stanza.

Junior Caroline Augsburger broke the deadlock when she fired a shot past the keeper on an assist from Rachael Loy to put Bridgewater out in front by a 1-0 tally. Bridgewater's opening goal came off of a corner insert less than four minutes into the second half of play.

After the Augsburger tally, the Eagles owned the lead for five minutes until a Cassie Clarence goal tied the score at a 1-1 tally which is how the game would remain after regulation.

Bridgewater controlled the second half of play, outshooting Juniata by a 7-3 tally but was only able to find the back of the net once over the final 35 minutes of play.

Both teams had opportunities in the first overtime session as the two teams traded cornersm but the first overtime came to an end after an Augsburger shot sailed wide to keep the contest at a 1-1 stalemate.

Bridgewater went on the attack in the second overtime before Strosser carried the ball along the baseline and beat the keeper to send the Eagles home with a 2-1 victory.

The two teams were even in shots over the nearly 90 minutes of play as both squads tallied 13 shots on the afternoon.
