Field Hockey Falls at Randolph-Macon, 2-0

Box Score

ASHLAND, Va. – Randolph-Macon scored two second half goals to break a scoreless halftime deadlock and hand the Bridgewater Eagles a 2-0 loss on Saturday afternoon in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) field hockey action.

Both teams had opportunities in the first half of play, but neither team could find the back of the cage as the game went into the intermission at a 0-0 tally.

Out of the halftime break, Randolph-Macon needed little time in breaking the deadlock as Renee Greenslade found the back of the net at the 39:19 mark to take a 1-0 lead early in the second half.

Bridgewater looked to net the equalizer in the middle portion of the second stanza. Junior Caroline Augsburger fired a shot that was turned away by Yellow Jackets goalie Steph Talley, before the Eagles earned back-to-back corners. Bridgewater was unable to convert on both chances, before the Yellow Jackets added an insurance goal.

Late in the 64th minute, Catherine Pricone scored off of a corner to extend the Randolph-Macon lead to 2-0 which is how the game would end.

Augsburger led the Bridgewater offense with three shots as the Eagles were outshot by a 25-8 margin.

Senior Jessica Balsano posted seven saves in the loss.

Randolph-Macon forward Carrie Jacobs led the Yellow Jackets offense with 10 shots while Talley turned away three shots to earn the win.

Bridgewater is back in action on Tuesday when it hosts Frostburg State. Start time from the Jopson Athletic Complex is set for 6 p.m.
