HARRISONBURG, Va. - Senior Caroline Augsburger netted her first career hat trick as the Bridgewater Eagles field hockey team took home a 7-2 victory on Thursday evening at Eastern Mennonite. 

The win for the Eagles marked the team's fourth in a row in their cross-county rivalry with the Royals.

Bridgewater (9-7, 5-1 ODAC) jumped out to an early lead after both teams had chances over the opening seven minutes of play. Augsburger's shot was blocked and Allison Kirk was there for the rebound and stuck a chip shot into the net for a 1-0 Bridgewater lead at the 7:07 mark of the contest. 

After the Kirk tally, play shifted back to the Eastern Mennonite offensive end as the Royals pounded the Bridgewater cage with shots. Freshman Amanda Harper made four saves to keep the lead at 1-0 prior to the Eagles adding an insurance goal. 

Junior Alenka Ferrufino moved downfield and dumped a pass off to Augsburger and the Lancaster, Pa. native found the back of the net for her first goal of the evening to extend the lead to 2-0 midway through the 16th minute. 

Eastern Mennonite controlled play throughout the remainder of the first half and the Royals got on the scoreboard off of a Melissa Cox goal to trim the Bridgewater lead to 2-1 at the half. 

Despite the 2-1 Bridgewater lead, it was Eastern Mennonite owning a 10-7 shots advantage over the opening 35 minutes of play. 

Out of the halftime break, Bridgewater went on the attack and netted a pair of goals to run its lead to three at a 4-1 tally. Junior Taylor Prillaman fired a shot on goal and her scoring attempt was turned away but the junior then dished a pass off to Rachael Loy and Loy found the back of the net for a 3-1 Bridgewater advantage. 

Bridgewater added to its lead at the 44 minute mark. The Eagles earned a corner and Shannon Strosser dished a pass off to Augsburger and the junior scored her second goal of the contest to build a 4-1 Bridgewater advantage. 

The Royals pushed back in a hurry. Two minutes later, Emily Augsburger scored to cut the gap to 4-2. Jenessa Derstine assisted on the Augsburger tally. 

Following the Eastern Mennonite (3-13, 2-5 ODAC) goal, the remainder of the game went the way of the Eagles. At the 47:33 mark of the contest, Prillaman found the back of the net for the first time as she directed a high shot into the net for a 5-2 Bridgewater advantage. 

Augsburger netted her third goal of the evening just over ten minutes later when she dribbled up the far side and fired a shot to the opposite post to build a 6-2 Eagles lead. 

Prillaman rounded out the scoring with a goal in the 62nd minute as the Eagles rolled back down Route 42 with a 7-2 victory over Eastern Mennonite. 

Augsburger fired nine shots in the game and scored three times to lead the Bridgewater offense. 

Harper made nine saves to pick up her seventh win of the year. 

Both teams registered 19 shots on the evening. 

Cox led the Royals' offense with seven shots and Hannah Daley posted eight saves in the loss. 

Bridgewater returns to action on Saturday at Sweet Briar. Start time against the Vixens is set for 11:30 a.m.
