Eagles Roll Past Sweet Briar, 5-0

Box Score

AMHERST, Va. – Junior Taylor Prillaman tallied two goals and added an assist to lead the Bridgewater Eagles field hockey team to a 5-0 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) victory on Saturday morning over Sweet Briar.

The win for the Eagles was their four in a row.

Bridgewater (10-7, 6-1 ODAC) scored early and often in the contest, with Prillaman putting the Eagles on the board in the opening minutes. At the 3:57 mark of regulation, the Magnolia, Delaware native found the back of the cage with her first goal of the game to build a 1-0 lead. Fellow junior Rachael Loy delivered the assist on the game-opening goal.

Prillaman and Loy reconnected again less than two minutes later. Loy ripped a shot on frame and Sweet Briar goalie Katie Torretti turned away the scoring attempt but Prillaman picked up the rebound and scored to build a 2-0 Bridgewater lead, which is how the score would remain at the intermission. The goal for Prillaman was her team-leading 12th of the season.

Out of the halftime break, the Eagles needed just eight minutes to add an insurance tally. Prillaman connected with senior Caroline Augsburger for Augsburger's 11th goal of the season to extend the lead to 3-0 in the 44th minute.

Sophomore MacKenzie Zabicki added to the lead at the 51:14 mark when she netted her first career goal off of an assist from Loy to push the score to 4-0.

Bridgewater's final goal came from the stick of Shannon Strosser as the Eagles rolled to a 5-0 ODAC win over the Vixens.

The Eagles were paced offensively by the play of Prillaman as the junior netted two goals and tallied a team-leading six shots. Bridgewater outshot Sweet Briar by a 35-3 tally on the day.

Freshman Amanda Harper secured the win after turning away one Sweet Briar scoring attempt on the day.

Three different Sweet Briar (1-14, 0-6 ODAC) players netted shots in the loss.

Bridgewater returns to action on Wednesday for the regular season finale at home against Randolph-Macon. Start time is set for 7 p.m. The game also marks Bridgewater's Stick it to Cancer game.
