WASHINGTON D.C. - Catholic took a 10-point lead at halftime Sunday afternoon and then broke the game open with a 9-0 run to start the second half as the Cardinals pulled away from Bridgewater College 76-45 in non-conference women's basketball action.

Catholic (3-1) opened the game with a 10-2 spurt before a 3-pointer by Bridgewater's Jessica Lam cut the margin to 10-5.  The Eagles kept chipping away at the deficit and pulled to within one, 13-12, on Kara Campbell's 3-pointer with 11:47 left in the half.

Catholic's Melissa Errico and Bridgewater's Heather Cantrell traded free throws before a layup by Cassidy Burkholder gave the Eagles their first lead of the game, 16-15. The teams traded the lead as Catholic's Josephine Misgash and Cantrell exchanged buckets, leaving the Eagles on top 18-17.

Jayni Webster knocked down a 3-pointer to put the Cardinals on top by two, but D'Anna Dawson connected on a short jumper for the Eagles to tie the score at 20-20.

Lam came away with a steal and dished to Jessi Strom for a layup, giving the Eagles a 22-20 lead with 8:20 left in the half. That would turn out the be the Eagles final lead of the game as Catholic outscored Bridgewater 14-4 during the rest of the half to lead by 10 points, 34-24 at the half.

The Cardinals carried the momentum into the second with their 9-0 spurt increasing the lead to 43-24. Burkholder broke the scoring drought for the Eagles with a jumper at the 17:51mark, but the Eagles would get no closer than 16 points the rest of the way as Catholic pulled away for the victory.

Cantrell and Strom scored eight points each to lead the Eagles while Burkholder added seven. Michelle DeSantis led the winners with 21 points and Webster added 17.

Catholic dominated the boards by a 56-36 margin with Oshene Kelly leading the Eagles with seven rebounds.
