Prillaman's Two-Goal Outing Sends Eagles Past McDaniel, 2-1

Box Score

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Junior Taylor Prillaman netted two goals, including the game-winning tally with less than 13 minutes to play in the contest as the Bridgewater Eagles (2-1) field hockey team defeated McDaniel College by a 2-1 tally on Saturday afternoon.

Both teams had opportunities in the first half, with the Green Terror owning a 4-3 advantage in shots, but the game went to the intermission at a 0-0 standstill.

Out of the halftime break, Prillaman wasted little time in getting the Eagles on the scoreboard. At the 40:29 mark of the contest, Prillaman collected a loose ball in front of the net and ripped a shot into the back of the cage to build a 1-0 Bridgewater advantage.

McDaniel responded in a hurry to the Prillaman tally. Five and a half minutes later, the Green Terror earned a penalty corner and Rachel Cressman took a pass from Bayley Vohs and found the back of the net off of a hard shot from the point to tie the game at a 1-1 tally.

Following the Cressman goal, the officials spotted lightning and put the contest into a lengthy delay.

Both teams endured a one hour, 38 minute delay before returning to play.

Out of the stoppage, Prillaman registered her second goal of the game at the 57:21 mark off of a hard shot from the left side to put the Eagles out in front by a 2-1 tally.

McDaniel (1-2) looked to respond just over a minute later but sophomore Brianna Bashore turned away the Green Terror scoring attempt to maintain a one-goal Bridgewater lead.

The Green Terror posted two penalty corners down the stretch but the Bridgewater defense was up to the task over the remaining 13 minutes of the contest as the Eagles rode away with a 2-1 victory.

Prillaman led the way in a defensive battle as the junior posted two goals on three shots. Both squads finished the contest with eight total shots.

Bashore made six saves to earn her second win of the year.

Cressman netted the lone Green Terror goal on two shots while Sara Reynolds added three shots in the loss.

Caila White made five saves in a losing effort.

Bridgewater returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Mary Washington in the Jopson Athletic Complex opener for the Eagles. Start time is set for 7 p.m.
