Box Score ASHLAND, Va. – BC struck twice in the opening six minutes, as the Bridgewater College field hockey team defeated Randolph-Macon 3-1 on the road Saturday.
Senior Taylor Prillaman continued her hot streak with a goal and an assist for Bridgewater; she now has a six-game point streak and 13 points total over her last three contests.
The Eagles' struck twice in 49 seconds early on to stun the hosts. After both Prillaman and Allison Kirk were saved by Kelsey Stanley, Bridgewater was awarded a penalty corner. Elizabeth Washington inserted the ball and then ran inside to finish off a pass from Prillaman.
Right after the RMC restart, senior Alenka Ferrufino broke down the field and took it all the way for an unassisted goal and a lightning quick 2-0 lead.
Bridgewater couldn't add to its advantage for the rest of the first half despite holding a 14-1 advantage in shots and forcing Stanley to make two more saves.
The Eagles would tally again in the second half however. Caroline Fletcher's shot was blocked but the junior recovered possession and crossed to Prillaman for a 3-0 lead.
Randolph-Macon actually put together some pressure while shorthanded after a green card early in the second. BC goalie Hannah Rioux saved Kaitee Nicholas, and the Yellow Jackets earned a penalty corner after another shot attempt was blocked.
At the other end, Rachael Loy's shot was stopped by Stanley. Ferrufino slipped the rebound under the goalkeeper but RMC's Mackenzie Turner made a defensive save along the goalline.
The Yellow Jackets would get a goal in the final 10 minutes, as Kali Carroll slipped a shot into the bottom right hand corner.
Bridgewater improves to 4-7, 2-1 ODAC and will play Hendrix on Thursday night, in a neutral site game on the campus of Roanoke College. Randolph-Macon falls to 7-5, 1-2.
