Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. – Bridgewater College held Lynchburg scoreless for the first 54 minutes Saturday afternoon, but the defending national champion scored two goals early in the second half to defeat the Eagles 2-0 in ODAC women's soccer action at Shellenberger Field.
The first 45 minutes was a defensive struggle. The Eagles did not have a shot in the first half, but the defense kept Lynchburg in check, limiting the Hornets to just six shots.
The Hornets broke the scoreless deadlock in the 55th minute. Morgan Singer took a cross from Camille Bartley and touched the ball to Hannah Olds for an open shot, giving Lynchburg a 1-0 lead.
Lynchburg (13-1, 6-0 in the ODAC) scored again less than four minutes later. Emily Maxell took a shot from in front of the goal that was stopped by Eagles keeper Hayley Talbott. Singer, however, cleaned up the rebound and her goal gave the Hornets a 2-0 lead.
The Hornets finished the contest with a 23-3 edge in shots, including a 14-1 margin in shots on goal. Keri Rager had two of the Eagles' shots.
Talbott finished the contest with 12 saves.
Bridgewater (6-5, 3-2-1 in the ODAC) returns to action next Saturday when the Eagles host Roanoke College on Homecoming weekend. Game time is set for 11:00 a.m.
