Box Score LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Bridgewater College Eagles defeated Randolph College, 2-0, Saturday evening for their third straight shutout victory.
With the victory, the Eagles continued their quest for a top four finish in the conference and a first-round tournament game at home. Bridgewater is now 6-2-1 in ODAC play with two games left in the regular season. The Eagles improved to 9-5-1 overall
Bridgewater controlled play throughout Saturdays' game, finishing with a 35-3 edge in shots. However, the strong effort of Randolph keeper Stepanie Quirk, who finished with 16 saves, kept the WildCats close.
The home team kept the Eagles off the board until late in the first half. Bridgewater broke the scoreless tie when Katherine Wight scored off an assist from Alycia Giauque in the 39th minute for a 1-0 lead.
While the Eagles continued to control the play in the second half, they were unable to extend the lead until the waning minutes. Keri Rager beat her defender down the right side and found Bailey Kratz open in the box and the Bridgewater freshman converted to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead.
Hayley Talbott and Taylor Riley combined on the shutout. Talbott played the first 88:10 and finished with one save before Riley finished up.
Bridgewater returns to action Tuesday afternoon for its final home game of the regular season when the Eagles host Shenandoah in a key ODAC contest. The game will begin at 3:30 p.m. and the Eagles will recognize its seniors prior to the start of the contest.
