BRIDGEWATER, Va. – McDaniel College stayed unbeaten on the season as the Green Terror held off Bridgewater College in the closing minutes Saturday afternoon to take a 2-1 victory in non-conference field hockey action.

The contest was a defensive struggle for most of the first half. The Eagles had several opportunities off penalty corners, but each time the Green Terror defense turned away the Bridgewater attack.

McDaniel finally broke the scoreless tie with 8:29 left in the half. Gabrielle Yore sent a pass from the right side of the goal across to the left side where Melissa Cohen was open for the shot to give McDaniel the 1-0 lead.

McDaniel held the one-goal advantage until Megan Quattrone found the back of the cage with just 20 minutes left in the game to put the visitors on top 2-0.

Bridgewater kept the pressure on the McDaniel defense the rest of the way and finally got on the board with less than three minutes left to play. The Eagles had a penalty corner and Elizabeth Washington put a shot on goal that bounced off the post. Alenka Ferrufino was right in front of the cage and cleaned up the rebound to pull the Eagles to within 2-1.

The Eagles kept the ball in their offensive end for much of the final two minutes but were unable to get off a shot as McDaniel held on for the 2-1 victory.

McDaniel held a slim 12-11 edge in shots. Bridgewater goalie Amanda Harper finished the contest with seven saves.

Bridgewater will look to pick up its first win of the season Thursday evening when the Eagles entertain Ferrum College in non-conference action. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
