Box Score SALEM, Va. - Roanoke College scored twice in the first 30 minutes Saturday afternoon and its defense did the rest as the Maroons defeated Bridgewater College 2-0 in the ODAC regular season finale for both teams.
With the loss, the Eagles drop to No. 6 in the final conference standings with a 6-3-1 ODAC record. Bridgewater is 13-4-1 overall.
The Eagles will play Wednesday in the opening round of the conference tournament at Lynchburg College. Brigewater and Lynchburg played to a 0-0 draw during the regular season. The ODAC office will announce pairings and game times later this weekend.
The Maroons jumped out to a quick lead with a goal in the sixth minute. Emily Whitaker scored from the left side off an assist from Megan Branigan to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.
Roanoke scored again in the 28th minute when Jillian Barnard scored off a pass from Megan Ryan to make the score 2-0.
Roanoke held an overall 14-10 edge in shots while the Eagles had the game's only corner kick opportunity. Bridgewater put seven of its 10 shots on goal but Roanoke keeper Chris Martin was solid throughout the game. Eagles' keeper Hayley Talbott finsihed the contest with two saves.
