Box Score DANVILLE, Va. - Bridgewater College posted its third consecutive shutout Tuesday as the Eagles defeated Averett, 4-0, in non-conference women's soccer action.
The Eagles took the lead with a goal in the fourth minute and never looked back. Keri Rager sent a cross from the left side to the far post for an open shot and Isabella Weigel converted to put the Eagles on the scoreboard. The goal was the eighth of the season for Weigel.
Rager made it 2-0 in the 17th minute when she dribbled past a defender and sent a shot from the top of the box past the keeper for her fifth goal of the season.
Bridgewater added two more goals in the second half to complete the shutout.
Emily Brummett's pass led to a breakaway for Isabella Krider and the Eagles' sophomore beat the Averett keeper from 10 yards out for her second goal of the year, making the score 3-0 early in the second half.
The Eagles scored their final goal in the 69th minute when a through ball from Katherine Wight led to Bridget Fabiani's goal from 8 yards out for the final 4-0 margin. The goal was the fourth of the year for Fabiani.
The Bridgewater defense was stellar, allowing the Cougars just one shot during the game. The Eagles held a 23-1 advantage in shots and a 9-1 margin in corner kicks.
Eagles goalkeeper Hayley Talbott recorded one save and earned her fifth shutout of the season. The shutout was the seventh of the season for Bridgewater in 10 games.
The Eagles, now 8-1-1 overall, return to conference play Saturday when they travel to Lexington to play the Washington and Lee Generals.
