Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. - Washington and Lee handed Bridgewater College its first ODAC loss of the season Saturday as the Generals edged the Eagles 1-0.
Bridgewater put the pressure on the Generals defense early. Bridget Fibiani put a shot on goal in the second minute, but Generals keeper Maggie Nolan was there for the save. The Eagles added another shot and two corner kicks in the first 10 minutes, but were unable to dent the W&L defense.
The Eagles opened the second half by once again testing the Generals defense. The Eagles earned a corner kick in the 52nd minute and a shot by Isabella Weigel off the corner was turned away by Nolan.
Bridgewater had a huge chance to put the first goal on the board when Bailey Kratz held off a defender and took a long pass from the defensive end. Kratz had a shot at an open goal as Nolan came off her line, but Kratz's shot missed just wide right.
Moments later, Megan Engeland scored the game's lone goal in the 64th minute when she hit a shot from the top of the box into the top right corner for a 1-0 W&L lead.
Shots were even in the contest at 7-7 while the Eagles held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.
Bridgewater keeper Hayley Talbott finished with five saves and Nolan recorded four saves.
Bridgewater is now 8-2-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the ODAC. The Eagles are back in action Tuesday when they host rival Eastern Mennonite.
