HARRISONBURG, Va. - Eastern Mennonite jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first two minutes Wednesday night and led the rest of the way in an 87-60 victory over Bridgewater College.

The loss was the first for the Eagles in ODAC play. Bridgewater is now 5-7 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

The Royals increased their early lead to 20-7 with 14:07 left in the first half on a 3-pointer by Jerome Jones, but a free throw by Romello Crowell and a 3-pointer by Kevin Saylor sliced the margin to single digits, 20-11.

A 3-pointer by Isaiah-Harris Winn and layup by Xavier McCants put EMU up 28-14 before a layup by Davrion Grier and a 3-ball from Jesse Case once again trimmed the margin to nine, 28-19.

EMU's Darryl Christian and Case traded 3-pointers to keep the margin at nine, 31-22, before a 10-2 spurt by the Royals increased the margin to 17 points, 41-24, with 4:08 to play in the half. 

The Royals increased their lead to 23 points, 47-24, before settling for a 49-28 advantage at the half.

Bridgewater cut the margin to 16 points, 53-37, on a layup by Saylor with 15:31 left in the game, but the Royals responded with a 7-0 spurt to open up a 23-point lead with 13:52 remaining.

Harris-Winn led the balanced Royals attack with 13 points. A total of 13 players scored in the game for EMU.

Saylor led the Eagles with 16 points. Bryce Boggs added 15 and Case scored 12.

EMU controlled the boards by a 48-36 margin and made 9-of-21 shots from beyond the arc.

Bridgewater returns to conference play Saturday afternoon when the Eagles host Randolph-Macon. Game time is set for approximately 4:30 p.m. The men's game will follow the women's contest against Lynchburg College.
