Box Score

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Juniata scored in the 10th minute of overtime to break a defensive stalemate, as the Bridgewater field hockey team fell 1-0 in its season opener on Friday.

The teams combined for just three shots on goal in regulation, all from the host Eagles.

Katie Alexander broke through once the game went to 7-on-7, converting at 69:23 for the winner.

While Bridgewater did not manage a shot on target, the Eagles defense did manage to completely neutralize their opponents, with goalie Ali Bishop forced to make just three saves. The game also featured just six combined penalty corners in nearly 80 minutes of play.

Jacqueline DiFulvio recorded BC's only shot late in the first half, putting the attempt just wide of the post.

Neither team put a shot on target in the first half, with Bishop making consecutive stops on Alexander in the 41st minute which marked the first saves of the contest.

Bridgewater head coach Allyson Kenyon was facing her college coach, Caroline Gillich, from her time as a student-athlete at Juniata. It was the third time in five years that these two sides have gone to overtime.

The Eagles (0-1) will play on the road again tomorrow, at Dickinson.
