BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College volleyball team defeated the Averett University Cougars for the second time this season to move to 15-4 on the season. 

The teams traded points at the start of the match until back-to-back kills by Emily Hanger gave the Eagles an 18-15 lead. Bridgewater would maintain the lead to close out the set and gain the advantage.

The second started in an exciting fashion with a Taylor McNeely kill off an attempt to save the ball by kicking it. The Cougars did out pace the Eagles and were up 18-16 until Jenna Hamra stepped behind the service line. She pushed the Eagles to a 22-19 advantage in a run that featured two kills from Madison Haynes. Haynes would add two more before the set ended on a Rachel Gaston kill.

Averett jumped out to a 7-2 lead as they looked to force a fourth set. Bridgewater slowly found their stride and found themselves up 18-15  in part to great play by Gaston, who earned four kills on five points. She would add two more in the set as the Eagles completed the comeback to win 25-19.

Gaston led the match with 17 kills and 11 digs to earn another double-double. The Eagles were impressive at the net recording ten blocks, four of which involved Haynes. Hamra also had a match high with 14 digs as did Victoria Wilson with 28 assists. 

The Eagles return to action Tuesday, October 9 as they face ODAC rival Virginia Wesleyan. Both teams only have one ODAC loss on the year. Game time is 7 p.m.
