HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Bridgewater College field hockey team scored twice late in a come-from-behind 2-1 victory at Eastern Mennonite on Wednesday.

Courtney Cooke tied the game at 1-1 with just over 14 minutes remaining, scoring from the left side of the area off an assist from Tessa Tierson.

Tierson then scored her fourth game-winning goal of the season, and second in a row, off an assist from freshman Caroline Quigley.

EMU had taken a surprise lead late in the first half, and nearly made it 2-0 with 15 minutes remaining.

With the ball right around the goalline, BC goalie Ali Bishop covered it, leading to a penalty stroke. Lauren Hartzler took the shot and Bishop made a diving save to her right. The Eagles would go right down the other end and tie the game.

EMU goalkeeper Kelsey Troyer made 18 saves for the hosts including 14 in the first half to keep BC scoreless until the final 15 minutes.

10 minutes into the game Tierson cut through the defense, leading to a sliding save from Troyer. Another Tierson run through the left side led to a kick save.

Georgia Howard made a long run from defense, also getting past the left side of the EMU defense but ending in a kick save from Troyer.

Troyer made two point-blank saves later in the first half- a blocker save on Meghan Obaugh and then a diving save at the doorstep as a rebound fell to Quigley. On the ensuing corner, she blocked a hard slapper from Howard.

Five minutes into the second half Tierson had two chances from close range, but Troyer was there for the double-save on the BC senior.

Bridgewater improves to 6-5, 3-1 ODAC and will host Randolph-Macon on Friday evening to kick off Homecoming Weekend.
