Women's Lacrosse Extends Shutout Streak vs. Muskingum

BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College women's lacrosse team pushed its shutout streak to a remarkable 137:56, with a 20-0 home win over Muskingum.

The Eagles have now won consecutive 20-0 games, after shutting down CNU over the final nearly 18 minutes of regulation and overtime in a season-opening victory.

Freshman goalie Mikaela Brooks made six saves in her second straight shutout, and has now stopped the last 13 shots on goal that she's faced.

Kristen Stark had eight points on three goals and five assists, while Anna O'Hara scored five times with one assist. Shannon Rogers had two goals and two assists.

Defending ODAC Player of the Week Dwyer Neal had four goals, two assists, four ground balls and a game-high five caused turnovers. Defender Mackenzie Parcell forced four turnovers.

Also recording multiple-point games for the Eagles were Phoebe Hart (2g, 1a), Abby Houtz (1g, 2a), Jodie Welsh (1g, 1a) and Sarah Waldburger (1g, 1a).

The goalkeepers each recorded a pair of saves before either team could get on the board. Stark opened the scoring at 26:50 of the first half.

O'Hara picked up a loose ball and scored up high to make it 2-0 with 25:54 left in the first.

Neal knocked away a pass from Muskingum goalie Kate Shamel, picked up the ground ball and fed Rogers for a low shot that made it 3-0 Bridgewater.

O'Hara completed a hat trick with two goals in a 12-second span, making it 5-0. She then finished off a pair of nice feeds from Stark for two more less than a minute apart, making it 8-0.

Houtz scored off a nice pass in traffic from fellow freshman Waldburger for a 12-0 lead. Neal completed her hat trick from a Welsh pass, making it 13-0 BC at the break.

Shamel had quite the stat line for the Muskies, totaling 11 saves and seven ground balls, but also nine turnovers on clears.

Backup goalie Cieanna Jones saved the first shot she saw- a point-blank stop on Hart. Hart picked up the rebound and scored for a 17-0 lead however.

Muskingum nearly spoiled the shutout when Ashley Adams found the cage in the second half, but she was whistled for a dangerous shot.

Bridgewater (3-0) will travel to Frostburg State on Saturday.
