LA CROSSE, Wis. – Bridgewater College junior Davonta Womack won his heat on Friday in the prelims of the 100 meters at the NCAA outdoor track & field championships.
Womack ran 10.83, which was ultimately the third-fastest time overall- just .03 shy of the top time (Birmingham-Southern's Jamal Wilkins) and two-thousandths of a second behind second seed Parker Witt of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
He will compete in the finals tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. EST.
Womack is in prime position to earn his first career All-American honor, which he will achieve if he finishes the finals in the top-eight. But he could also be among the contenders in the race after finishing so close to the top of the prelim leaderboard.
He also competed at the NCAA championships indoors this year, missing the finals of the 60 meters by one place.
