Eagles Roll To 7-0 Victory Over Wasps

Box Score

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Bridgewater College opened conference play Saturday afternoon with a 7-0 victory over Emory & Henry College in women's soccer action.

The Eagles struck early as freshman midfielder Hanna Randolph scored from deep just two minutes into the game to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead. Hunter Collier slid a pass to Randolph out front and the Eagles freshman sent a ball toward the upper 90. The shot glanced off the keeper's hands and into the goal for the first score of the day.

Catherine Haufe's sixth goal of the season padded the margin to 2-0 in the 21st minute. Bridget Fabiani worked along the left end line and took a shot than glanced off the keeper's hands. The ball went to Haufe and she cleaned up the rebound with a shot into the net from 10 yards out.

Bridgewater added two more goals late in the half to lead 4-0 at the break. Morgan Tood scored her first goal of the season in the 39th minute. Todd outworked a pair of E&H defenders to possess the ball just out the box. She took one dribble into the box and sent her shot inside the far post for the goal. Less than a minute later the Eagles scored again to lead 4-0. Todd lifted a ball toward the far post and teammate Janidy Madera touched the ball past the keeper, just inside the post, for her fourth goal of the season.

Just two minutes into the second half the Eagles tallied again. Bailey Kratz beat her defender down the left side and carried the ball into the box. She dropped a pass to Sydney Ryan for the open look and Ryan blasted her shot past the keeper to push the margin to 5-0.

The Eagles scored their sixth goal on a penalty kick. Kratz took the PK and her shot hit the post and ricocheted into the back of the goal.

Bridgewater scored its final goal in the 72nd minute. Emily York and Randolph worked a give-and-gp with Randolph receiving the return pass from York just inside the box where she scored her second goal of the game and her fifth of the season to complete the scoring.

Sydney Davis and Jessica Touve combined to record Bridgewater's fifth shutout of the season. The duo faced just one shot on goal with Touve picking up a save in the second half.

Bridgewater, now 7-1 overall, is back in action Wednesday when the Eagles travel to Harrisonburg to face Eastern Mennonite.
