BALTIMORE, Md. - The Bridgewater College volleyball team defeated Goucher and Misericordia on September 22 in a tri-match. With the two wins, the Eagles move to 11-2 on the season and have now won seven consecutive matches. 

Match One: Bridgewater 3, Goucher 0 (25-10, 25-19, 25-18)

Bridgewater immediately came out of the gate and was led by Madison Haynes as she served eight consecutive balls to give the Eagles a 10-3 lead. The Eagles held on to that momentum in set one as they would only allow Goucher to score seven more points.

The second set was much tighter as teams traded points to start. Tied at 14-14, Bridgewater found their rhythm as Alexis Weir, Deja Booker, Emily Hanger, and Jessica Bissmeyer all contributed kills to put the Eagles up 2-0.

The Eagles jumped out to an early in lead in set three after kills from Bissmeyer and Booker and a service ace from Taylor McNeely. Goucher hung around, coming within one point of the Eagles on two occasions, but it was not enough as the Eagles stayed focused to sweep the Gophers.

Booker led the team with nine kills, followed by the freshman Weir with seven. McNeely controlled the backline with 15 digs, as well as Jenna Hamra who contributed 10. Victoria Wilson added 25 assists to push her season total over 400. 

Match Two: Bridgewater 3, Misericordia 0 (25-20, 25-13, 25-18)

The Eagles were right back on the court for match number two against Misericordia. The Cougars held the lead at 10-9 when a kill from Nadia Valle evened the score at ten all. Bridgewater never looked back as they would go on to win the set 25-20 on a Wilson kill.

Strong serving from Jyailah Friendly gave the Eagles a 10-1 lead to open the second. Bridgewater never let Misericordia come within nine points in the set.

Friendly and Haynes would pick up right where they left off in the third, combining behind the service line for 10 points in a run that featured five kills from Rachel Gaston. Booker would put down the final kill to give the Eagles the match.

Gaston scored a match-high 20 kills to put her season total at 166. She currently leads the ODAC in kills and kills per set.

Wilson had 33 assists and McNeely contributed 12 digs.
