Late Goal Gives BC 1-0 Win in ODAC Opener

Box Score

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Karinne Moyer scored with just over two minutes remaining as the Bridgewater College field hockey team edged Virginia Wesleyan 1-0 in the Eagles' ODAC opener.

After Jacqueline DiFulvio kept a VWU clearance in play, a pass was touched by Meghan Obaugh up to Moyer. Moyer sliced through two defenders, dribbled around the goalie and tapped it in from her left side for the game winner.

The Eagles were outshot 8-5 in the game, with senior goalie Emily Witzke making seven saves including two in the final period.

The Marlins had five penalty corners and three shots on target in the opening quarter, with Witzke stopping consecutive attempts off corners in the 13th minute of action by Cori Jackson and then Elizabeth Roberto.

In the fourth quarter Witzke denied Roberto and then a shot off a corner from Hunter Majewski to keep the game scoreless, setting up Moyer's late winner.

Bridgewater is 3-8, 1-0 ODAC and will host Shenandoah on Wednesday night. Virginia Wesleyan falls to 3-8, 0-2.
