Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Bridgewater College softball team opened 2019 with two wins over Penn State Altoona. The Eagles took the first game 9-0 in six innings and the second 9-1 in five innings.

Game One

After a scoreless first inning, senior Lindsey Talley hit a 2 RBI double with the bases loaded to bring in Sydney Layman and Morgan Landes while advancing Avery Pinder to second.

Talley would end up providing the spark for a powerful second inning. Torie Shifflett hit a 2 RBI single as Pinder and Talley scored, followed by a Katrina Martin RBI single to bring in Shifflett for a 5-0 lead heading into the third.

Martin would be walked to start the fifth before freshman Kaitlyn Tirona tripled to send Martin home and put the Eagles up 6-0. With Tirona at third, senior Allison Patrick hit a sacrifice fly to give Bridgewater the 7-0 advantage.

The Eagles had the based loaded in the sixth after the Lions walked Shifflett, allowed a Mikalia Guard single, and walked Tirona. Penn State Altoona would walk their third runner of the inning with Patrick at bat, bringing in Shifflett for the Eagles 8-0 win in six innings.

Lindsey Talley led to Eagles with two hits and two RBIs. Eight different Eagles recorded one hit.

Carolyn Campbell earned her first win of the season, allowing two hits in three innings. Emily Clifford got the save with one hit in three innings.

Game Two

The Nittany Lions started things off in game two with a Brittney Dellaquila RBI single to send Abby Showers home. That would be the lone run scored by Penn State Altoona as the Eagles took charge for the remainder of the game.

Talley continued her strong hitting from game one with a single. She would go on to steal second and advance to third on a Guard single. Guard followed suit and stole second before a Sarah Wimer triple brought both Talley and Guard home to make the score 3-1. Wimer would then be sent home on a wild pitch to give the Eagles a 4-1 lead.

Martin hit a single in the fourth to bring Morgan Landes up to the plate. The sophomore hit a big triple as Martin scored to give Bridgewater the 5-1 edge.

The Eagles would score four runs in the fifth inning. Senior Carlita Tibbs stepped up to bat following singles from both Taylor Novak and Keirsten Kennedy. Tibbs would single, bringing in Novak to put the Eagles up 6-1. Shifflett was up to bat next and would reach first on a Penn State error and advance to second sending Tibbs to third and Kennedy home for a 7-1 lead.

In what would be the final at bat of the day, Martin hit a 2 RBI triple to bring Shifflett and Tibbs home and  secure another win for the Eagles.

Stephanie Carroll, Tibbs, Martin and Landes all had two hits for the Eagles.

Brooke Louden earned the win, pitching three innings while allowing three hits. Kennedy was awarded the save, throwing two innings and allowing two hits.

Bridgewater returns to action on March 3 as they face Defiance and Dominican from Clermont, Fla.
