BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College field hockey team outshot Sewanee 20-6 in a 2-1 Family Weekend victory on Saturday morning.

The Eagles controlled for third quarters but needed a late Ali Bishop save to hold on after Sewanee scored once in the fourth and looked for another late.

Bishop was down low and reached up with her blocker to deny Ceara Caffrey her second goal of the fourth period with just over a minute remaining in the contest.

In a dominant first quarter, the Eagles finally broke through after a barrage that totaled 12 shots, eight saves and five penalty corners in a span of just 4:15. Meghan Obaugh scored after a rebound fell to her in the middle of the circle.

Karinne Moyer had three great chances in the first half. She collected a Courtney Cooke cross well in the early going but was saved from point-blank range by Barbara Canty (10 saves). An outside shot from Obaugh was then saved and fell right to Moyer but the shot went wide as she collided with the goalkeeper.

Moyer intercepted a pass at the back to start the second quarter but her breakaway chance went wide.

Claire Ashley came across to clean up a promising Sewanee attack after Buckley Norman had dribbled past a defender on the left side.

Cooke made her defender fall down in the third quarter and passed to Kallie Moyer to double the Eagles' lead to 2-0. Cooke had a breakaway chance go wide earlier in the third.

ODAC play is up next for the Eagles (2-8), who kick off their league schedule next Saturday with an important road trip to Virginia Wesleyan. The Marlins have finished one game out of the playoff picture each of the past two seasons.
