FERRUM, Va. - Ferrum College outscored Bridgewater 12-5 over the final 3:36 of the game Saturday afternoon to pull away for a 73-65 ODAC victory over the Eagles.

The Eagles trailed 61-59 when guard Chandler Murray went to the line for two free throws. Murray missed the first, but made the second foul shot to pull the Eagles to within a single point. 61-60, with 3:36 left.

Ferrum then reeled off the next nine points to put the game away. Kajuan Madden-McAfee hit a 3-pointer and James Smith, Jr. scored on the break, giving the Panthers a 66-60 lead with 2:30 left. After Monte Simpkins missed from 3-point range for the Eagles, Smith scored again, making the score 68-60. Madden-McAfee then added two free throws for a 70-60 Ferrum cushion with 56 seconds left to play.

Davrion Grier converted a three-point with 50 seconds to go to slice the deficit to seven, but Rashad Reed scored off an assist from Carrington Young with just 34 seconds remaining to put the Panthers up 72-63. 

Chandler Murray scored for the Eagles, before Smith made 1-of-2 foul shots for the final 73-65 margin.

Murray hit 50 percent of his shots, including 6-of-12 from 3-point range, to lead the Eagles with 24 points. Will Bowser finished with 13 points and Grier added 11. Simpkins led the Eagles on the boards with 12 rebounds.

Reed and Smith combined to score 56 of Ferrum's 73 points with Reed leading the way with 31. Young pulled down 15 rebounds to pace Ferrum's efforts on the glass.

The Eagles, now 6-14 overall and 2-9 in the conference, return to action Wednesday night when they host Randolph-Macon, the ODAC's top team. Macon is ranked No. 3 in the D3hoops.com Top 25 poll.
