Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Roanoke College scored the game's first 17 points Saturday afternoon and led wire-to-wire in a 76-44 victory over Bridgewater College in ODAC men's basketball action played at Nininger Hall.
Roanoke's Caleb Jordan hit a 3-pointer on the first possesion of the game and Tripp Greene added a layup for a quick 5-0 lead. Jordan scored on a driving layup and Greene followed with a 3-pointer to give the Maroons a 10-0 lead less than three minutes into the game.
The Eagles went nearly eight minutes without scoring. By that point, Roanoke led 17-0. Bridgewater finally got on the board when Davrion Grier threw down a dunk while being fouled and then tacked on the foul shot to make it 17-3 with 12:13 left in the first half.
Jalil Langston hit a short jumper for the Eagles, but Joe Mikalauskas countered with a jumper to put the Maroons ahead 19-5 at the 11:10 mark. Roanoke then went scoreless for nearly five minutes, but the Eagles were unable to make a dent in the Maroons lead as the score was still 19-5 with 6:21 left in the first half.
The Maroons pushed the margin to 24-5 before Bridgewater's Monte Simpkins made a 3-pointer to make the score 24-8 with five minutes left in the first half. At the break, Roanoke led 34-12.
Bridgewater turned the ball over 10 times in the first half and shot just 13 percent from the field, making just three of 23 shots. That included 1-of-13 from 3-point range.
Liam Caswell was the only Bridgewater player in double figures with 17 points. Greene and Kasey Draper each finished with 19 points to lead the Maroons.
Bridgewater, now 8-16 overall and 4-11 in the ODAC, wraps up the regular season next Saturday with a road trip to Hampden-Sydney.
