Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. – ODAC favorite Randolph-Macon outscored Bridgewater 19-2 in the first six minutes of the second half, increasing a three-point, 35-32, halftime lead to 20-points and the Yellow Jackets led the rest of the in a 74-56 victory Wednesday night over the Eagles.
The contest, a late addition to the schedule, was a non-conference matchup.
The Yellow Jackets, ranked No. 1 in the nation by Basketball Times, jumped out to an early 12-2 lead and the margin was still eight, 30-22, with 3:55 left in the first half.
Bridgewater's Alec Topper made two foul shots and teammate Chandler Murray drained a long 3-pointer, pulling the Eagles to within three points, 30-27, with 1:43 left in the first half.
Macon's Miles Mallory scored on a 12-footer, but Topper worked inside to convert a layup in traffic to keep the Eagles with three, 32-29.
Eagles' big man Kellen Hodge then went to the foul line and made 1-of-2 to make it a two-point game, 32-30. Macon's Josh Talbert missed a 3-pointer from the corner on the next possession and Matt Ciccone grabbed the rebound, giving the Eagles the ball in a one possession game. Ciccone then dished to Jalil Langston for a layup as the Eagles pulled even, 32-32, with 11 seconds left in the half. Buzz Anthony, Randolph-Macon's All-American guard hit a 3-pointer to beat the buzzer, sending the Yellow Jackets to the locker room with a three-point, 35-32, halftime lead.
Coming out of the half, the visitors hit the Eagles with an 8-0 flurry to push the margin to double figures, 43-32. BC's Andy Pack scored from in close to snap the Yellow Jackets' run, but Macon followed with an 11-0 spurt to open up a 20-point cushion, 54-34, with 14:38 left to play.
Pack led the Eagles with 14 points and six rebounds. Topper and Zach Hatter each finished with nine points for Bridgewater.
Talbert led all scorers with 23 points. Anthony and Mallory each scored 14 points and Anthony added nine assists.
Bridgewater returns to action Saturday afternoon when the Eagles travel to Shenandoah. The contest is a non-conference game with tip-off set for 3:00 p.m.
