Box Score VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Goals from Erin Dameron and Daphne Daymude helped lift Bridgewater field hockey over the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins 2-0 in the squad's conference opener.
Less than two minutes into the game, Dameron found Caroline Quigley on a penalty corner who made a striking pass to Emily Tyler in front of the goal. Tyler swiftly found an open Daymude to her left who's stroke found the back of the net for an early 1-0 lead.
After scoring early, the Eagles had shots from Bekah Mercer and Quigley in the remainder of the first quarter and from Taylor Wood in the second.
Bridgewater's second tally of the day came at the beginning of the fourth quarter off another penalty corner from Dameron. The rookie again found Quigley who sent a pass right in front of the cage to Hassmilyn Delarosa and tapped it over to Dameron for the goal.
Quigley led the Eagles with four shots followed by Claire Ashley with three. The Eagles led the Marlins 14-5 in shots and 3-1 in penalty corners, capaitlizing on the opportunities with goals.
Brooke Hamm minded the cage for Bridgewater making one save on the only shot on goal she saw.
The Eagles move to 4-6 on the year and 1-0 in ODAC play. The team is back in action on Wednesday, October 6, when they host Lynchburg at 7:00 p.m. in the program's Bleed Crimson match.
