Box Score BRIDGEWATER, Va. – The Bridgewater College women's soccer team tied Washington and Lee with a score of 2-2 on Saturday afternoon.
A rematch of last year's ODAC Championship, this game was as advertised between the two ODAC contenders as they battled out an 110-minute game in which neither were victorious.
The Eagles began with the hot hand, as out of the gate they looked up to the challenge. Just five minutes in, they had already gained a 2-0 advantage. The first goal coming in the third minute when Ashley Sabatino scored her seventh of the year on a left footed shot that beat the goalkeeper high.
In the fifth minute, Maren Dougherty scored her first goal of the year on a rebound header. Hanna Randolph dumped a corner into the box from the left side, Skyler Daum had the initial shot with a header that hit the cross bar and went bar down, but didn't go in the net. The ball then bounced into the air which found the head of Dougherty to make it 2-0.
Washington and Lee began to gain momentum towards the middle of the first half and cut the lead in half at the 28:12 mark when Cameron Grainger scored on a pass from Emily Leding.
It was 2-0 at 45 minutes, with shots tied up at seven a piece, as well as corners tied at three.
The Generals tied it up in the 53rd minute, and neither team were able to gather enough offense to break through the tie. At the end of regulation, shots were tied at 13 apiece, and corners were 6-3 in favor of BC.
Both overtime periods were intense, with great defense being played, and after two 10-minute periods, Washington and Lee held a 2-1 shot advantage. There were no corners taken, and no saves by either goalkeeper.
Final total shots were 15-14 Washington and Lee, and BC held a 6-3 total corner advantage.
Goalkeeper Sydney Davis faced five shots in the game, making a key diving stop in the second half.
Next up for BC a matchup at Ferrum on Wednesday Oct. 13 starting at 7 p.m. The Eagles are now 9-1-2 (2-0-2 ODAC) on the season.
