LEXINGTON, Va. - The Bridgewater College volleyball team fell to Washington & Lee 3-1 before taking down Ferrum 3-0 to start the season. 

BRIDGEWATER 1, WASHINGTON & LEE 3 (26-24, 19-25, 11-25, 15-25)

The Generals got off to fast start in set one and held an 11-5 lead before a Jessica Bissmeyer service run brought the Eagles back to 11-9. Bridgewater slowly found their way back into the set and took their first lead on a Lauren Nofsinger block to make it 16-15. The two teams went back and forth and played to extra points before Hope Jennings end the set on a kill to give the Eagles a 26-24 set win and 1-0 edge.

Washington & Lee controlled the momentum for the next three sets and escaped with the win.

Freshman Ashley Casey paced Bridgewater with 11 kills and eight digs in her first collegiate match. Lisa O'Grady recorded 10 kills. Grace Hayes posted a double-double with 31 assists and 14 digs. Jyailah Friendly matched Hayes' dig total with 14 of her own.

BRIDGEWATER 3, FERRUM 0 (25-5, 25-11, 25-11)

The Eagles bounced back quickly with a decisive 25-5 set win over Ferrum, highlighted by an 11-point service run from Bissmeyer and a nine-point service run from Casey. 

Bissmeyer continued her strong play from behind the service line with an eight-point run in the second and totaled four aces in the match. Bridgewater controlled the game for the final two frames and ended the match with a Nofsinger kill.

Jennings led the Eagles in match two with ten kills followed by Sienna Sullivan with seven and Nofsinger with six. Friendly posted 16 digs and Hayes had 21 assists.

Bridgewater returns to action on March 19 when they host the Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets.
