FERRUM, Va. - Bridgewater College shut out Ferrum 3-0 Wednesday afternoon for its seventh straight victory to start the season. The match was played as a non-conference contest and will not count in the ODAC standings.
The Eagles jumped on the Panthers with two goals in the first 20 minutes. Freshman midfielder Ashley Sabatino, one of six first-year players in the starting 11, scored her first college goal in the sixth minute, giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead.
Bridgewater scored again in the 20th minute when Kaia Richardson scored off an assist from Maren Dougherty for a 2-0 Eagles lead.
The score remained 2-0 until the 84th minute when Rachel Bullard scored off a pass from Lauren Pion, making the score 3-0.
Three Bridgewater keepers combined for Wednesday's shutout. Megan Byle worked the first half for the Eagles and finished with three saves. Carlee Gaboury played the first 39:09 of the second half and Charli Daum finished up for the Eagles. Ferrum had no shots on goal in the final 45 minutes.
The Eagles finished with a 13-7 edge in total shots. Both teams had two corner kick opportunities.
Bridgewater returns to action Sunday afternoon when the Eagles host Guilford College.
