Box Score
BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Bridgewater freshman Destiny Zapata scored the game's only goal in the second half Friday, lifting the Eagles to a 1-0 victory over Roanoke in the ODAC Women's Soccer Tournament Semifinals.
The Eagles will play Washington and Lee for the ODAC Championship on Sunday afternoon on the Generals' home pitch. W&L handed Bridgewater its only loss of the season, a 2-1 setback in the final game of the regular season.
The first half ended in a 0-0 tie, but the Eagles had several scoring opportunites in the first 45 minutes as they kept the pressure on the Maroons defense.
Skyler Daum had the first chance for the Eagles just two minutes in when she got behind the Roanoke defenders for a breakaway. Maroon's goalkeeper Carrington Lippi came out of the box and deflected the shot.
In the 10th minute, Cyan Coates floated a shot toward the goal from just outside the box and the attempt went just over the crossbar. Late in the first half, Madeline Bohan hit the crossbar with a shot and, in the final minute of the half, Hanna Randolph worked into the box and her shot from close range deflected off the keeper's hand and hit the post before bouncing back to Lippi.
Zapata finally put the Eagles on the scoreboard in the 67th minute when she split two Roanoke defenders and beat Lippi with a low driving shot toward the far post for the 1-0 lead
The one goal proved to be enough as the Eagles' back line kept play clean in front of keeper Sydney Davis for most of the contest. Roanoke did earn four corners during the contest, but Davis faced just six shots and needed to make just one save to earn the shutout
The Eagles, now 10-1 on the season, will be looking to win the program's first ODAC Championsip when they travel to W&L on Sunday. This will be Bridgewater's third appearance in the conference championship game.
